Top 5 Travel Essentials

I’ve been travelling a lot lately and have even more small trips coming up, and I’ve realized that there are some products I always bring with me without even having to think about it. I always throw these in my bag and know that these products will always work well for me. These products are also very small leaving more space in my bag for extra clothes and shoes that I probably will never end up wearing. These 5 products are always with me when I travel, and I know that I will continue bringing them on many more trips to come.

Garnier Mini Waterproof Micellar Water

The Garnier waterproof micellar water is already one of my all time favourite products. I’ve gone through so many full size bottles of this product, but the full size bottles isn’t exactly easy to travel with. Luckily, mini sizes of both the regular micellar water and the waterproof formula exist. This is amazing for travelling. I find that the waterproof one gets off all of my makeup making sure I don’t leave random mascara smudges on hotel pillows or on friend’s couches. You don’t need a lot of it to fully get all of your makeup off (even eye makeup) and it doesn’t leave your skin or eyes feeling all oily or like there’s a weird film on it. After long days of travelling, I sometimes don’t want to fully wash my face so I will just put this on a cotton pad an use that to slightly cleanse my skin and my skin will feel great (not as good as fully washing my face, but better than if I had done nothing). In general, I love this product but having a travel size of it really makes packing my makeup and skin care so much easier. $3.29 CAD at Walmart

Smashbox Photo Strip Palette

This product is new to me, but I instantly fell in love with it. It’s a small-sized palette but I can get so many looks from it without having to bring in other shadows or other palettes. The size of this palette makes it ideal to travel with. It’s so tiny and fits in pretty much any makeup bag I own. It’s a bit longer, but it’s very slim and somehow still has a ton of product in each eyeshadow pan. The shades are perfect to travel with because you can get great natural everyday looks or even some more intense looks as well. The shadows are very pigmented and easy to blend. I haven’t used many smashbox eyeshadows in the past, and the ones I have used I honestly haven’t been that big of a fan of, but this palette is amazing. I’ve found that they also have little to no fallout onto my face when I apply them to my eyes. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of this small palette and that helps to really make it a top-contender out of all my palettes when I go travelling. This palette has already gone on a few trips with me, and I can tell it will be a part of many more trips to come. I did get this palette from Sephora but wasn't able to find a link or the price through the Sephora website, but I did find it for $48 CAD on amazon.

Cover FX Mattifying Primer – mini

This is one of my all-time favourite primers for my very oily skin. It keeps my skin matte for hours and hours while also making my foundation look better on my skin. It works amazingly for me in any climate, from very dry to extremely humid which makes it an ideal one to bring everywhere with me. This primer has a bit of a silicone type feel to it and I find that not only does it mattify my skin, but it also helps to blur out my pores and prevent me from getting oily within a couple hours. Having the mini size of it also makes it so much easier to travel with it, since the full size can take up a decent amount of space in a makeup bag. It’s great having this primer when I travel because I know that I won’t have to worry about my makeup melting off my face on long days where I either won’t want to touch up (sometimes you just don’t want to have to stop and blot/powder your face for a few minutes) or not have time. $19 CAD at Sephora for this size, $44 CAD for the full size.

Boscia Mini White Charcoal Mattifying Setting Spray

The full size of this setting spray is giant. It’s an amazing product that I love so much, but the full size is very difficult to travel with it. I have perfume bottles that are much smaller than it. Having a small travel size of this setting spray is amazing because it works so well for me and this way I’m not worried about my makeup melting off my face while trying to figure out where the closest coffee shop to where I’m staying is. The travel size of this is so tiny and small that it’s easy to throw in a makeup bag and go. It’s also small enough that on the rare occasions I pack light enough to only go with a carry on, I can still bring it with me. I can also use this when my skin starts getting oily throughout the day instead of bringing powder and/or blotting papers with me. Not only can I use it to set me makeup, but being able to use it to touch up my face makeup makes it even more useful to travel with. $16 CAD for this mini size, $50 CAD for the giant full size.

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot mascara

Normally when I’m doing my makeup at home, I like to use 2 mascaras and layer them to really intensify the volume on my lashes. However, when I’m travelling I don’t want to bring any more than I have to so I tend to only bring one mascara. The Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara is one of the few mascaras that I’ve tried that I find actually gives me the intense look I want in my lashes while only using one mascara. I use this often in everyday life when I’m at home, and because I love it so much and it makes my lashes look amazing, I find it perfect to travel with. The tube doesn’t dry out very fast and the formula is wet while also not being too wet that it smudges all over and gives me raccoon eyes within an hour. $8.96 CAD at Walmart.
