Sleeping masks...wait what?

I don’t know about you, but I thought sleeping masks were stupid and gimmicky when I first heard about them. It’s such a unique concept that it seemed too good to be true. I couldn’t understand how they worked or that they didn’t just immediately rub off onto your pillow. Out of curiosity, I tried a few and I was surprised. While some I tried did suck, a few did honestly make a noticeable difference in my skin. I noticed some sleeping masks I’ve tried pretty much glue my pillow to my face and it feels awful, or they break me out and do nothing else. However, there are three sleeping masks that I’ve tried that I love and have become staples in my skincare routine. These ones have actually made noticeable differences in my skin and not just for the first hour of waking up the next day (some will improve my skin, but as soon as I wash my face it’s like there was nothing there). No matter what skin type you have, at least one of these sleeping masks will work for you!
LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK
So far everything I’ve tried from Laneige, I’ve loved. I use this mask 1-2 times per week, depending on how dry and dehydrated my skin feels. I apply it about 10-15 minutes before I actually get into bed and curl up in my little blanket burrito. This way I find a lot of it will sink into my skin before I throw my face into my pillow. As soon as I apply it to my face, it already feels really calming and hydrating. It has a gel-like consistency and doesn’t feel overly thick to the point it would really clog up my pores. This mask doesn’t make my face stick onto my pillow at all and some times there will even be leftover residue on my face when I wake up the next morning. If there is anything left, it is really easy to just wipe off with a towel or cotton pad and go on with your morning. If I do apply too much, then I will notice that some of it can rub onto my pillow, but I find you really don’t need much at all in order to get the full impact of this. This mask does make my skin feel so much more hydrated and refreshed. My normally super oily skin has been weirdly incredibly dry lately (I blame the freezing cold and dry winter) so I have been using this at least 2 times a week and it has made such a noticeable difference in my skin. If you have normal-dry skin, I would highly recommend this. Even if you have oily skin, it helps so much to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. The tub is actually huge for this, but you need so little that it will last so long. CAD $33 at Sephora.

THE BODY SHOP YOUTH BOUNCY SLEEPING MASK
I find that overall skincare from The Body Shop is incredibly underrated. They have so many skincare products that are ride or dies for me, and this face mask has made its way into that category. This was the first product I used from their drops of youth line, and I instantly notice it helped to improve the appearance of my skin. I don’t use this mask often, I use it when I notice my skin is looking really dull and needs some extra nourishment and brightening. The consistency of this mask is a thick gel-like formula, and honestly I thought it was so weird at first. Same as the Laneige water sleeping mask, I apply this 10-15 minutes before I dive head first into bed. I find with this mask, if I don’t give it some time to start sinking in then it will make my face stick a little bit to my pillow and it’s a weird feeling that I do not enjoy at all. If it sinks in a bit before I hit the pillow, then that doesn’t happen. I almost never have any residue of this left on my skin when I wake up, but if I do it is really easy just to wipe off. I wake up and my skin looks so much more awake and bright (even if I got barely any sleep). My skin also looks and feels more plumped/youthful/healthier (it’s kinda hard to descreibe) and overall just so much better. I have been using this once every week or two since last summer and you need hardly any so one tub has lasted me a long time. Aside from the weird consistency, I highly recommend this mask if you want something that’s going to make your skin so much brighter, more plumped, and make it feel fresh and nourished. CAD $32 at The Body Shop. They also often have lots of sales, so you can get it for even cheaper.

SEPHORA COLLECTION GREEN TEA MATTIFYING SLEEP MASK
I’ve been impressed by so many products from the Sephora brand skincare range. I LOVE their sheet masks and their sleeping masks especially. I haven’t needed to use this mask in a few months, but I always go to it if my skin is extra oily or I’m really breaking out. It comes in a small container and is just a green gel. The container may seem really small, but I can easily get 4-5 uses out of each sleeping mask. I do recommend using it a few nights in a row (or try to use it up within a week) after you open it because it can dry out pretty quick if you use it once then want to come back to it a week or so later. Same as with any other sleeping mask, I put it on 10-15 minutes before bed so it can start to sink in and not have green goop rub off onto my pillow or get all up in my hair. The day after I sleep with this mask on, my skin will stay significantly less oily throughout the day. If I use it a few days in a row, my skin will be less oily for even longer and it helps my makeup apply better and last so much longer throughout the day. If I’m breaking out really bad and use this mask, I notice that it doesn’t help clear up any existing acne, but it really helps to prevent future ones and will stop any current ones I have from getting worse. If you have oily skin, I cannot recommend this mask enough. I’ve tried a few of their sleeping masks and have loved every one I have tried, but this one has been my favourite and one that I continuously repurchase and go back to. CAD $5 at Sephora.
